Parent Coordination is a child-focused dispute resolution process.  It is used outside of court to assist parents with their communications and to address child-related issues, such as schedules, extra curriculars, education and health care management in a timely manner.  Both parents must agree to utilize this service, which is intended to reduce the conflict and refocus the parents on the child’s needs.  Sometimes, if it is included in the court order or agreement, the parent coordinator may be authorized to make certain decisions, essentially acting as an arbitrator.  In Maryland, the duration of this  appointment ends after 2 years.
